Medflight II

Offered to you free of charge, MedFlight II is an advanced life-support air transport service that brings patients to and from all Wellmont Health System hospitals. These specially equipped medical helicopters are housed at Virginia Highlands Airport in Abingdon, Va.

MedFlight II is a partnership between Wellmont and the Virginia State Police. Flight crews consist of a flight nurse and flight paramedic provided by Wellmont and a pilot provided by the Virginia State Police. Wellmont also supplies the crew’s medical equipment, while the State of Virginia pays for aircraft upkeep. Flight nurses and paramedics must meet strict requirements and pass several certifications to quality for the MedFlight team.
